Vintage 1960s Fredrik Kayser Wingback Tan Leather Chair for Vatne Møbler

Sale price£1,875.00

A stunning vintage 1960s wingback lounge chair designed by Fredrik Kayser for Vatne Møbler, one of the most celebrated and sought-after designs of the Scandinavian mid-century period.

This exceptional chair showcases Kayser's signature organic styling, featuring elegant sweeping arms, beautifully sculpted lines and a refined wingback silhouette. The design manages to be both visually striking and incredibly comfortable, making it a true statement piece for any interior.

Crafted to an outstanding standard by Vatne Møbler, the chair is built to last and demonstrates the exceptional quality associated with Norwegian furniture design of the era. The solid rosewood feet provide a beautiful contrast to the leather upholstery while adding warmth and sophistication to the overall design.

The leather has been expertly hand-dyed in a rich tan colour, creating wonderful depth, character and warmth. A beautiful patina has developed over time, enhancing the chair's vintage appeal and highlighting the natural qualities of the leather. The result is a finish full of charm and individuality that perfectly complements the chair's elegant form.

Comfortable, stylish and beautifully proportioned, this chair would work equally well in a living room, study, reading corner or design-led commercial interior.

Presented in excellent vintage condition with minor age-related wear consistent with its age, adding to its authenticity and character.

An iconic Fredrik Kayser design, combining sculptural Scandinavian styling, exceptional craftsmanship, solid rosewood detailing and a beautifully patinated hand-dyed leather finish.

the craft behind the patina

A slower way of making furniture — and the reason every piece feels different.

The Craft behind the patina

the craft behind the patina

Each sofa is dyed by hand using traditional pigments.

No two pieces finish the same — the patina develops naturally, just like fine leather luggage or vintage jackets.

The hand-dyeing process

Dyed by Hand, Not by Machine

Each hide is dyed by hand using layered techniques rather than sprayed or drum-coloured finishes.

The colour is built gradually, allowing depth, variation, and movement to develop across the surface.

No two hides take the dye in exactly the same way — and that’s entirely the point.

What you’re seeing isn’t a surface colour, it’s colour that lives within the leather!

The patina

A Patina Designed to Evolve

The patina is created through a multi-stage hand-dyeing and finishing process.

Over time, the leather continues to soften and deepen in tone through use, light, and touch, adding further character without losing integrity.

The result is a finish that feels established from day one and improves with age.

"Couldn’t recommend highly enough.
Absolutely love my sofa. And so does everyone else!"

Mark A.

"Brilliant pieces of furniture, great knowledge and you will not be disappointed. I bought an armchair after a visit to his warehouse. That in itself was a great experience. A hidden gem for now. Thank you!"

Michael K.

"They really are wonderful and we are delighted with our new chairs."
