The People Behind the Work

A family-run business shaped by patience, accountability, and pride in craftsmanship.

How it started

Rooted in Craft, Built as a Family Business

Maison Patina is a small, family-run business that has been serving customers for over twenty years from Lewes, East Sussex.

Our story began with restoration — sourcing exceptional mid-century, vintage, and traditional leather pieces from around the world, and bringing them back to life by hand.

Working closely with original furniture taught us not just how pieces were made, but how they age, soften, and develop character over time.

That knowledge still defines everything we do.

New Collection

From Restoration to Creation

Over the years, clients were drawn to the depth, warmth, and individuality of restored vintage leather — but many wanted those qualities without the compromises that come with age.

They asked for something new, but with the soul of the old.

In response, we began creating brand-new pieces inspired by the proportions, materials, and character of vintage furniture, built using traditional construction and finished by hand.

Furniture that feels established from the outset, yet is designed for modern living.

Adriano

A Personal Craft

At the centre of the business is Adriano, whose background began with an apprenticeship under a cabinet maker and upholsterer more than twenty years ago.

It was there that a lasting respect for structure, proportion, and traditional upholstery was formed — along with a fascination for leather and its ability to transform through hand dyeing and use.

That experience now informs every piece we create.

Leather is restored, dyed, and finished using traditional methods, allowing depth, variation, and individuality to emerge rather than forcing uniformity.

No two pieces are ever the same — by design.

Our Approach

Our Philosophy

At our core, we are guided by the same principles that shaped our restoration work.

We focus on honest materials, used properly.

We uphold a high standard at every stage — from sourcing and construction to finishing and delivery.

And we believe that the experience of choosing furniture should feel as considered as the furniture itself.

Being family-run allows us to remain closely involved, accountable, and approachable.

It also allows us to build meaningful, long-term relationships with our clients — not just transactions.

Furniture Made the Way It Used to Be

Crafted slowly. Finished by hand. Designed to last.

The materials

Materials Chosen With Care

We work with carefully selected Italian leather hides, chosen for their strength, softness, and natural grain.

Each hide is hand dyed using layered techniques to create depth, variation, and character — never uniformity.

For comfort, we use feather-filled cushions that respond naturally to the body, creating a relaxed sit that softens and settles with use.

The craft

Made by Hand, One Piece at a Time

Each piece is upholstered by hand, allowing the leather to be tensioned, shaped, and finished correctly.

This approach respects the natural behaviour of leather and ensures seams, cushions, and proportions are refined by eye rather than template.

It’s slower, more demanding, and far less scalable — but it’s the reason our furniture feels balanced, comfortable, and enduring.

No two pieces are ever identical.

And that’s exactly how it should be.

Comfort & Living

Designed to Be Lived With

Comfort is not an afterthought — it’s built into every layer.

Feather-filled cushions provide a relaxed, responsive sit that softens and settles over time.

They invite use, reward everyday living, and develop familiarity — much like the hand-dyed leather that surrounds them.

Our furniture is designed to improve with age, gaining comfort and character rather than wearing out.

Why We Do It

Furniture With a Future

Much of today’s furniture is designed to be replaced.

We believe it should be designed to stay.

By combining traditional construction, honest materials, and skilled hand finishing, we create pieces intended to last — physically, aesthetically, and emotionally.

Furniture you live with.

Furniture that becomes part of your home.
